Dear Parents,
This will be our last newsletter for the school year, so let me begin by telling each of you how much I have appreciated your support of the Early Learning Center this year. It has been such a pleasure to get to know so many of you and your sweet little children. My goodness, how the children have grown this year! It is always such a joy to watch them grow physically, emotionally and in personality over the school year. I know that every day I can look forward to a smiling moment and I really love that about my job.
For those of you whose children will be moving on to kindergarten, my very best wishes to you and your family. We’ve shared some very fun times with you, and I hope that your experiences with the school will continue to be everything you hope for. Mrs. Byington is an exceptional principal, and our two kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Passolt and Mrs. Betrozoff are excellent. I know they will welcome you if you ever want to visit with them about your child’s progress or your continuing involvement in school.
For those who will be returning for another year of preschool, I look forward to seeing your children’s smiling faces and getting to know each of you better. The family support team is planning some new and exciting family events next year and we look forward to you joining us.
Take Care,
Laurie

News from 3’s Preschool
We will continue our exploration of the alphabet and numbers zero to ten in early May. We count many things daily but will begin work on some number recognition and matching dots to the number in fun activities. Later in the month, we will spend sometime making beautiful butterflies and tropical fish to decorate our room and bulletin boards. Please, remember Barbe will be contacting families to schedule parent/teacher conferences in early May. If you do not receive a call by May 12, PLEASE call to schedule your appointment.
The last week of May and first week of June will bring fun filled days of celebration as we prepare to finish the school year. Our class party and promotion activities will be June 3. Please, watch for flyers with more details. It has been an amazing and wonderful experience to work with your children this year. Thank you for sharing your special little people.

News from 4’s Preschool
Preschool Families,
Can you believe it; in just weeks we will be done with school! We had a blast talking about animals & bugs, and even had a chance to watch a caterpillar turn into a butterfly! We are now discussing plants, and how they grow, and will move on to investigate what lives in the ocean. Our year will end with a very fun review of what we can be done during summer vacation, including; birthdays, family trips and getting ready for school in the fall.
We will not have school on May 26th in observation of Memorial Day. We will resume our regular schedule on Tuesday, May 27th. Our Graduation Party will be on Wednesday, June 4th. I will send home more information as we get closer to the day. Don’t forget we will be doing a very special project for this day, and will need a plain white t-shirt by May 22nd.
If your child is moving on to kindergarten in the South Bend School District next year, and you have not turned in your registration papers, please do so soon. By doing so, you are helping make the transition from preschool to Kindergarten smoother.
Families, as your child gears up for the move to kindergarten, it is important that their independence skills be tested and that we, the adults, step aside and let them do specific skills that will be required of them next year. This would include leaving comfort items at home, requiring them to carry their coat and backpack into the classroom and place it in their cubby without assistance, and saying goodbye at the door, allowing them to find their classroom without adult help.
Spring Conferences will be held the weeks of May 12th (Monday-Thursday) and May 19th (Monday-Thursday). If you have a preference of day/time, we strongly encourage that you sent a note in your child’s backpack or give us a call.

News from Kindergarten
In Kindergarten we are really turning into fantastic readers. Every time I turn around the students are reading either by themselves or with a friend. The best part is that when they are stuck on a word, they can use all they know about letter sounds to try to figure it out on their own. They are SO proud that they can read on their own!!
We are also focusing on writing. With all of the great alphabet knowledge we have now, we can use it to spell and write down our ideas. We are moving from just writing sentences (which we are great at) to writing more than one sentence that go
together…almost into a short paragraph. The students even told me that paragraphs turn into stories!! WOW, we have come so far from September!!
I am truly lucky to have these great students and I am VERY PROUD of ALL of them!
Happy spring!
