Hello, Seniors.

SAT Testing:
This Friday, October 10th, is the late registration date for the November 1st test.
November 5th (late-November 18th) is the registration date for the December 6th test. Remember, register online at www.collegeboard.com. South Bend's High School code is: 481220.

  • US Bank, 30-$1,000 scholarships awarded in a random drawing. Online application at usbank.com/studentbanking.
  • Burger King Scholars, $1,000 scholarships, check it out at www.bk.com/scholars.
  • Washington State Auto Dealers Association, $10,000 worth of scholarships for students who write best essay about their "Car of My Future." www.wsada.org.

I found some interesting information on Universities that offer no or significantly reduced tuition to students with family incomes from $40,000 and upwards.

For example, Duke University replaces loans with grants to undergrads with incomes below $40,000. Income between $40,000 and $60,000, they eliminate the parental contribution altogether. Even at $100,000 family income Duke caps loans at $5,000/year.

Don’t forget SAT testing:
Tests are given at Aberdeen High School. You register for the test online at www.collegeboard.com. Enter the South Bend High School Code:  481220. Cost is $45, plus $23 if you register late. SAT fee waivers are available—please contact me.
     Registration by:        9/26 (or 10/10-late)         test on November 1st

Students who are residents of Washington State may enroll at participating two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state at a reduced tuition rate.  WICHE states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is offering scholarships to students planning to study Viticulture and/or Enology. Applications are due by November 30th, at www.wawgg.org.

The ACT will be administered at SBHS on December 13, 2008. More information to come.

South Bend students may access tutors online every Monday-Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Check it out at: http://www.learningcommons.org/tutors.

There are a lot of resources available in the library for seniors and I am available mornings, M-F. I am happy to meet with students any morning.
